Aubrey Plaza: Funeral Berserker

Fleet Foxes drummer and singer J. Tillman, of multi-album fame, has left the band and taken on the moniker Father John Misty with an album release coming this April. But for now, we have a single off the upcoming LP Fear Fun.

“Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings” blends driving percussion, distorted guitar, atmospheric howling, and emotive yet simple lyrics. Beyond just the song, is the raucous music video featuring Parks and Recreation actress Aubrey Plaza. Plaza steps away from her deadpan act to become an entropic force of the universe.

She shreds flowers with her teeth, tosses lawn chairs, disrupts a funeral, mounts lamps, smashes a turntable, runs into the woods and becomes engulfed in a cloud of blood—among other things. All the while, Father John Misty calls out “Jesus Christ, girl. We should let this dead guy sleep.”

Fear Fun will be released April 30th on Bella Union.

For ages, the shopping mall was as essential to the architecture of suburbia as Levittowns and freeways. While the U.S. currently has around 1,500, the number may soon shrink, and rapidly, leading to abandoned […]
