If you’ve been on twitter, chances are you’ve run into one of the many Bill Clinton parody accounts. The ex-president has become somewhat of a twitter icon despite the fact that he’s never actually written a tweet. Well now that has all changed, thanks to some persuasion by Stephen Colbert. The parodic talk show host recently broadcast a live episode from the Clinton Global Initiative University, where he discussed Clinton’s ongoing efforts to pursue greater education and equality in developing countries.
The talks oscillated between serious matters and the mundane, and Colbert eventually got around to asking Clinton why he has never gotten on twitter. Clinton responded, “I’m sort of insecure. What if you tweet and nobody tweets back? There’s nothing worse than a friendless tweeter, right?” Colbert put his mind at ease quickly enough, though, and even helped him set up an account on the show. Working together, the two crafted his first tweet.
Just spent amazing time with Colbert! Is he sane? He is cool! #cgiu
