Buy Your Own Tyrannosaurus
This Sunday is your best chance to pick up a fully-assembled Tyrannosaurus skeleton. Heritage Auctions is offering up a full-grown Tyrannosaurus Bataar skelton as part of their Natural History And Fine Minerals Signature sale. The specimen is a close relative of the North American Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Tyrannosaurus Bataar is estimated to have lived about 70 million years ago in the late Cretaceous. This particular skeleton measures approximately 24 feet long and about 8 feet tall. The specimen’s history is a bit unclear; the Mongolian government is investigating its origins. Were it discovered that the skeleton was found in Mongolia, the legality of the auction would be called into question. The auction promoters insist that the sample entered the U.S. legally.
The skeleton is one of many items up for auction at the sale. It is predicted that the piece will fetch between $950,000 and $1.5 million.
