Lupe Fiasco’s 2006 hip-hop classic Food & Liquor is getting a sequel. Really. No release date yet, but it will be called Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album. That’s a tall order for Lupe, so he’s making it a double LP. Long in the works, he considers it to be his masterpiece—a break from Lasers and a return to his original musicality. On the upcoming album he said, “It’s real good. It’s real fucking good.”
Below we have first the new single off the album, “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free).” It heavily samples Tom Scott’s saxophone from “Today,” and it is definitely a return to form for Lupe.
Here is him talking about his upcoming album, Food & Liquor II.
