LCD Soundsystem’s 2002 debut single, “Losing My Edge,” not only kicked off James Murphy ultra-popular indie dance-punk group, but it helped to revive dance-punk and solidify Death From Above (DFA) records.
“Losing My Edge” (edited version) music video below; it’s four and a half minutes of James Murphy getting slapped across the face. You can hear him begin to reference how he was on the scene before any of these other DJs. The fantastic song captures both an essential element of modern hipness and a key issue of aging.
Now some people have taken the time to compile a playlist of all those references into one 69 song playlist. There are a lot of them, and a particular 69 track one is linked here. It’s 5 hours though, so if you want to act like “you were there,” it will take a time commitment. Enjoy.
