Microsoft: No New Xbox at E3

Well, folks, after speculation that a next generation Xbox, dubbed “Xbox 720” (I prefer the term “nextbox”), would appear at CES to no avail, it looks like there will be no announcement of the next piece of hardware at E3, either.

Microsoft stated in an interview with Kotaku, “While we appreciate all the interest in our long-range plans for the future, we can confirm that there will be no talk of new Xbox hardware at E3 or anytime soon. For us, 2012 is all about Xbox 360-and it’s the best year ever for Xbox 360.”

Speculation still abounds about the next generation of gaming consoles—might they be disc-less? Kinect/motion-controls incorporated?—but neither Microsoft or Sony have shown their hands. Nintendo has already announced the Wii U, and it’s expected that is showcased during their stage time. The seventh generation of game consoles, though, is nearing its seventh year (the original 360 was released November 22, 2005), and consumers are growing dissatisfied with the stagnation.
