The National Release New Song for Game of Thrones

In the past couple years The National have made a name for themselves by playing their own wholly unique brand of dark, hypnotic indie rock. The band is most known for lead vocalist Matt Berninger’s raspy baritone. Berninger’s low register is perfect for their latest project, a track for the Game of Thrones soundtrack. Not many indie bands could thrive when using medieval fantasy as subject matter, but The National pull it off. Berninger’s deep vocals are mournful over soft, swelling strings as he sings of one of Tywin Lannister’s past victories. Fans of the books may recognize the song, it is actually sang by bards several times in A Song of Ice and Fire. Check out The National’s rendition of one of Westeros’s most popular epics.
