As if there weren’t enough hype around El-P’s new album Cancer for Cure, he has now released the official video for his Tropic Thunder-inspired lead single, “The Full Retard.”
El-P once again goes hard, but we already knew that. The video for the song plays out like Fear and Loathing on Avenue Q, with El-P and a puppet squirrel buddy doing illicit drugs and traveling to strip clubs. Something of a parody of 21st century hip hop videos, with El-P and the squirrel riding on their extremely bouncy car, “benjamins” everywhere, liquor flowing, and deadly amounts of cocaine along with a tilting, frequently cutting camera style. All this stands in contrast to El-P’s intelligent and clever references, including a semi-ironic nod to Camus. Check it out below.
El-P has tweeted the squirrel’s identity. No surprises here, as the squirrel takes an Uzi to a child during the video.
by the way, the squirrels name is Mr. Killums.addressing him any other way is…risky.#dudehasproblems
